Reflection Post: 8/20/2015 – Closing the Digital Divide

During class we discussed ways to close the digital divide. All groups came up with great ideas for closing the gap with seminars, presentations, etc. Many of us are fortunate to have the income to afford the internet which gives us access to things like social media, online resources, and perks such as mobile banking and shopping online. A group that truly seems to suffer from this digital divide are the elderly. Many do not have the knowledge necessary to use digital devices such as smart phones. The world is quickly moving into the “new media” generation and the “old media” generation is dying off. Without proper education on how to use these devices, people like the elderly will not be able to keep up with news, banking, shopping, social media, etc. If we could make our ideas for closing the digital divide come alive, I feel like it would be a great step in the right direction.
